The Awesome Timeline

We’re very lucky to have a community of customers who have been on the journey with us, from our humble beginnings in a bedroom, through to our present day factories in Leeds and Austin, TX.

However with our community of creatives, entrepreneurs, musicians and artists constantly growing, we felt it was time to give a proper introduction again and share the story of Awesome Merchandise.

It all came about back in 2005 when Luke, our founder, began making badges from his bedroom with a handheld badge machine so he could get through uni without getting a proper job.

One day, he got an order for 80,000. So he quit uni and made more stuff.

The first factory space we moved into was a 350 sq. ft unit in Barkston House, Leeds in 2007. It wasn’t long before we outgrew the space, moving into a 1000 sq ft unit within the same building.

Within a year we were on the hunt for a bigger space again. Taking over 5 units on the ground floor of Barkston House. Team awesome was made up of around 28 people, and this, combined with the extra room allowed us to move into screen printing and embroidery.

In 2014 we said a fond farewell to Barkston House,  moving across Leeds to our current location. We started with a 10,000 sq. ft unit and quickly set to work making it feel more Awesome, adding in our sheds and break area.

We thought this space would be big enough to last us for a while but within a year we’d outgrown the space again, so we added a unit at the back for storage and to house Awesome Distro.

Bursting at the seams, we knocked through into the unit next door in 2016, as well as creating a mezzanine space for Awesome Distro, giving us 23,000 sq. ft of space to play with.

In early 2017 we got rid of the sheds in favour of our brand new office spaces and created a new showroom space for our customers.

In 2018 we launched in Austin, Texas, as well as launching our US website! Starting out with an offering of screen printed t-shirts, tote bags, stickers and pins, the product range will quickly expand into a wide range of custom merchandise and print options.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without all our awesome customers, friends, and collaborator and our doors are always open for you to pop by and say hello.
